SB Gilbert
SB graduated from Georgia College and State University in 2016 majoring in English Literature with a minor in Spanish and moved to New Jersey to complete two AmeriCorps years tutoring and writing English Curriculum in the classroom. After a few years working with high schoolers in this setting and exploring a love for building relationships in and out of the classroom, SB moved to Philadelphia and got their M.A. In English Literature with a minor in Gender and Women’s Studies at Villanova University. They continued to publish their own personal research on gender and sexuality studies in science fiction and horror film / television, then after graduating in 2021 SB found their way back to New Jersey to teach high schoolers film studies and research electives while coaching sports and leading clubs like the Queer Straight Alliance. Making space for marginalized and more introverted students to feel safe and interested to explore social settings has always been at the core of SB’s approach to working with young adults whether that be through sharing books, movies, sports, or mentorship.
During their free time, SB is always working toward their yearly reading goal or watching the latest film at the movie theater. SB enjoys chatting all things horror, reality television, Halloween related, and researching their latest paper proposal to publish. They are obsessed with their cat Ellen and finding the perfect sweet treat to pair with an afternoon coffee.
